A Note Worth Sharing
Following BMHA U15C2’s tournament in West Kelowna - where the team battled back from early deficits in multiple games and ultimately captured gold - we received a message that truly stood out.
After officiating their games, a West Kelowna official took the time to reach out:
Hi Keith,
You don’t know me and I haven’t sent an email like this before unfortunately. But I am an official in West Kelowna, and I had the pleasure of officiating your U15 Rec C2 team this morning. Tony Ruic being the head coach [with assistants Mark Simoes and Kevin Lao] and I just wanted to let you know they are an awesome coaching staff. Not only the way they would communicate with us but the way they encourage their players is something that the game of hockey desperately needs.
It shows in their game as well. In both games I was doing, they were down at the start of the game and heard nothing but positive encouragement from the coaches, and they came back in multiple games this weekend. My entire crew noticed it in all of the games we saw of them this weekend.
Unfortunately, as officials we don’t always see that in coaching staffs, so it’s something I feel that deserves to be recognized when we do!
Thank you for your time, and let them know we would gladly have them back in West K anytime.
Nathan D.
The gold medal is impressive. But recognition like this - unsolicited, from an official - speaks volumes.
Minor hockey is about more than wins. It’s about development, resilience, and creating a positive environment for players to grow. Congratulations to the entire U15C2 team - and thank you to Coaches Tony, Mark, and Kevin for setting the tone behind the bench.
That’s hockey done right.
